The Performing Arts Learning Center at Hilo High School kicks off its 25th year by presenting the classic Shakespeare play “Romeo and Juliet,” tonight and Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at Hilo High Auditorium.
PALC Director Jackie Seaquist has set the play in 1911 India, during the time of the establishment of New Delhi.
This year’s season includes the annual New Playwrights Festival, now in its 15th year, and a special musical revue in April to celebrate the program’s history of musical theatre productions. Extra events are also planned for the public, such as a masquerade ball in October and a dinner mystery theatre event in the spring of 2013.
Since 1987, PALC has provided theater education at Hilo High, supporting student achievement by providing a project-based curriculum that encourages students to strive for excellence in performance, leadership and creative problem solving, and to facilitate connections to career and college programs in performance and broadcast media.
